The Rise of Online Learning in Africa, from Classrooms to Clouds
Our civilization is undergoing a rapid transformation thanks to digital technologies. Every facet of human existence is being impacted by them. Globally, the effects are becoming more and more noticeable at every level of the educational system. The rise of online learning and the digital revolution are driving significant changes in the African educational scene. Cutting-edge e-learning systems are democratizing access to knowledge and closing educational gaps in both isolated rural areas and booming smart cities.
The purpose of Sustainable Development Goal 4 of the United Nations is to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.” This change is in line with this global agenda. The COVID-19 epidemic caused social separation and movement restrictions, as a result, different strategies are required to instruct and deliver learning outcomes using digital technology tools at unique locations. In Morocco, the digital learning landscape has been rapidly evolving, with initiatives such as the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P) Morocco Digital Academy (MDA) at the forefront.
Launched in 2019, MDA aims to democratize higher education through free online courses, addressing the country’s growing demand for accessible, quality education; designed to provide young people with free online courses in digital skills and new technologies from top-tier institutions. Youths can develop skills in cyber security, the Internet of Things, Augmented & Virtual Reality, and other product development courses. The University has persisted in influencing Africa’s talent by using peer-learning-based leaching strategies at 1337, a collaborative method coding school, that uses project-based learning to let students unleash their creativity.
