Morocco-Italy: University Mohammed VI Polytechnic provides training in renewable energies

The transition to sustainable energy has become a priority for Africa. As the continent embarks on its energy transition, it will be able to count on the support of Italy, which is committed to enhancing the skills of professionals in this strategic sector.

From 15th October, the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic in Morocco will be launching a training program on renewable energies and energy transition, specifically dedicated to African professionals.

Promoting the development of renewable energy

This program, set up in collaboration with the Enel Foundation, an Italian think tank specializing in energy and climate, and the RES4Africa Foundation, which supports the energy transition on the continent, aims to provide participants with the technical, economic and regulatory skills needed to promote the development of renewable energies in African electricity markets.

This initiative, which marks its first edition, is part of the Mattei Plan, a strategy implemented by the Italian government to strengthen partnerships with African countries, particularly in the energy, sustainability and education sectors. This training course is one of the first concrete projects under this plan, which is still in its launch phase. The objectives of this Italian collaboration are in line with those of Africa.

Driving Africa’s energy transition

According to the African Energy Commission, the energy transition must be a strategic priority to stimulate inclusive economic growth, promote wealth creation, eradicate poverty, and reduce inequalities in a sustainable manner and harmony with climate objectives. The institution, which is responsible for implementing the African Energy Transition Programme, emphasizes the need to build human skills and capacities as being at the heart of this transformation.

The training program will be attended by forty professionals from the electricity sector, representing public institutions, energy companies, universities and research agencies across Africa. At the end of this course, these experts will be called upon to play a key role in supporting and leading the continent’s energy transition.
