Redefining hospitality & tourism in Morocco

In this first episode, Hamza Maadani explores with Imane Rmili how female leadership might be the transformative catalyst the hospitality and tourism industry is waiting for. The guest of this podcast is an innovator who became the very first woman to lead a national federation in the hospitality business in Morocco; she shares insights about her journey. From growing up in a family of restaurateurs, forging her path through a career in finance, and back to her roots, Rmili embodies resilience and vision. Her transition back to Morocco after years abroad was marked by challenges, especially trying to break into the male-dominated restaurant sector.

She is honest about how determination, hard work, and the legacy of her family have combined to allow her to progress through the ranks first to become a vice president at the Confédération Nationale du Tourisme. Rmili stresses that what women need is solid training, powerful networks, and an environment that allows them to rise to senior leadership positions, enabling them to start changing the gender balance in what is still a very male-dominated industry. The episode also touches on the bigger ambitions of Morocco’s hospitality sector, especially since the country is gearing up to host the 2030 World Cup—a unique opportunity for growth and innovation. Rmili sheds light on her collaboration with initiatives such as the incubation programs supporting entrepreneurs in Moroccan gastronomy. However, she insists that the real transformation of the industry is in breaking systemic barriers and ensuring women access key positions beyond the frontline. While she acknowledges that passion is the foundation for success in hospitality, she points to the need for specialized training and strategic career choices that align with personal values and aspirations.

Her message to aspiring women is one of empowerment: to embrace challenges, cultivate confidence, and draw strength from setbacks, as these are essential for long-term success. Rmili’s inspiring vision is rooted in optimism, aiming for a future where Moroccan hospitality continues to flourish, enriched by the contributions of women who lead with purpose and sensitivity.
