Advanced Crystallography and Magnetic Structure Refinement at UM6P
From April 15th to 17th, 2025 | on campus, Benguerir
The African Rietveld School (ARS25) returns to UM6P with a particular focus on crystallographic and magnetic structure refinement. This unique training event brings together early-career scientists and field experts to share practical issues and solutions through the FullProf software package.

Organized by the Laboratory of Inorganic Materials for Sustainable Energy Technologies (LIMSET-UM6P) in collaboration with the Center for Doctoral Studies, the African Rietveld School (ARS25) will take place from April 15 to 17, 2025, at the UM6P Benguerir Campus (Tensift Amphitheater).
This advanced training program is designed for materials researchers interested in structural resolution. ARS25 will focus on the refinement of pure phases, multiphasic systems, and magnetic structures using the FullProf software, with special attention given to specific defects in the crystalline structure that must be considered during the refinement process.
What to Expect:
- Expert-led Lectures: The lectures will cover essential concepts, techniques, and advanced features of the Rietveld method and FullProf software.
- Advanced Crystallographic Techniques: Participants will explore cutting-edge methods in structural resolution, including the refinement of complex crystal structures.
- Practical Application: Throughout the event, the focus will be on refining pure phases and mixtures of different phases, as well as understanding the role of magnetic structures in material analysis.
The school will be led by national and international experts. This event is an excellent opportunity for materials researchers looking to enhance their knowledge of structural refinement. In addition, participants will have the chance to present their work through oral presentations or posters, highlighting the significance of Rietveld refinement in their research fields.
