Green Chemistry 2025—A New African Chapter Begins at UM6P
Shaping Chemistry for a Sustainable Future
With a bold pan-African vision, UM6P’s Green Chemistry program empowers emerging scientists to tackle today’s challenges through innovation, mentorship, and collaboration.

This week, UM6P launched a new edition of its Green Chemistry program, welcoming a cohort of participants from across Africa.
The opening session included remarks delivered by Professor Youssef Habibi, Director of UM6P SUSMAT-RC, setting the tone for the sessions ahead. The first session, “Introduction to Green Chemistry,” featured a presentation by Professor John Warner, who discussed the field’s foundations and guiding principles. Professor Habibi followed with examples of how these principles are applied to address current challenges.
The day concluded with a round table led by Professor David A. Laviska, focusing on developments in chemistry education and the role of community, mentorship, and leadership in supporting emerging scientists.
