A key player in Morocco’s national hydrogen strategy and the GREAT-H₂ project launch
On the 1st and 2nd of October, University Mohammed VI Polytechnic took part in the 5th edition of the World Power-to-X Summit (WPTX 2025), held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and organized by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, IRESEN, and the Green H₂ Cluster

During this international gathering, UM6P showcased its vision and commitment to energy transition, research, and innovation in the field of green hydrogen. The University’s experts joined high-level discussions with policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders on how Power-to-X technologies can accelerate Morocco’s shift toward a sustainable energy future. A highlight of the event was the signing of an agreement by UM6P’s Green Energy Park (GEP)
To launch the GREAT-H₂ project (GIS-driven Renewable Energy Assessment and Transition Tool for Hydrogen Production, Planning, Storage, and Grid Integration). The initiative was developed in collaboration with Energy Pool Flexibility Maroc and Energy Pool Development France, and selected under the Inno France–Maroc Green H₂ Tech Transfer joint call, led by IRESEN, SATT Paris-Saclay, and the Agence Française de Développement.
The GREAT-H₂ project embodies UM6P’s approach to applied research serving real-world industry needs, combining data science, renewable energy modeling, and strategic planning tools to optimize hydrogen production and integration. The 2025 edition of the Summit also provided a platform for major investment commitments in green ammonia, industrial fuels, and low-carbon steel, reaffirming Morocco’s ambition to become a global hub for clean molecules and sustainable energy.
Accelerating Africa’s Energy Future
Through initiatives like the Green Energy Park and interdisciplinary research programs, UM6P continues to drive Africa’s green energy transformation. The University’s participation in the World Power-to-X Summit reflects its mission to connect science, industry, and education to shape a more sustainable future.
UM6P’s growing involvement in hydrogen and renewable energy innovation stands as a testament to its role as a continental leader in applied research, supporting the Kingdom’s strategic vision for energy sovereignty and sustainable growth.
