Biosaline Agriculture: Turning Saline Lands into Productive Farms
With salinity threatening global agriculture, scientists explore salt-tolerant crops and innovative farming techniques.

Salinity is a major challenge for agriculture worldwide, hindering plant growth by limiting water absorption. While it can occur naturally, poor irrigation and groundwater overuse worsen the issue. Biosaline agriculture offers a solution by cultivating salt-tolerant crops like quinoa and barley, turning saline lands into productive farms. Scientists are also developing new salt-resistant varieties.
Morocco World News (MWN) spoke with Abdelaziz Hirich, a professor at University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P), to explore this approach.
