International Workshop: “Encounters of Kalām and Islamic Philosophy”

The Arabic Classical Philosophy and Philosophy of Sciences (ACPPS) research center invites you to a workshop entitled “Encounters of Kalām and Islamic Philosophy”, organized on January 23 & 24, 2025 at UM6P Benguerir.

The workshop aims to provide a platform to explore intersections between kalām and Islamic Philosophy, where participating scholars from different backgrounds will be presenting their ongoing research offering new perspectives about key figures and ideas within these two fields of study.

The event will gather seven participants deeply invested in kalām and philosophical studies in Islamic contexts. Their presentations will delve into topics related to influential scholars, notably Abū al-Ḥasan al-Ashʿarī (fl. 935), Avicenna (d. 1036), Abū Ḥāmid al-Ghazālī (d. 1111), and Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī (d. 1210), with a particular focus on their influence, reception, theological and philosophical stances.

The workshop is structured into three sessions, where each participant will have approximately one hour for their presentation, followed by interactive discussions among the participants and the audience.
