Loubna Mekouar British Council Research Grant Announced for Climate Resilience Project

Professor Loubna Mekouar has been selected as a recipient of the British Council Research Grant, awarded through the prestigious Going Global Partnerships program. This grant supports the launch of a major international initiative entitled “Empowering Women’s Climate Change Resilience in Morocco Through Research and Technological Innovation: A Multidisciplinary Approach”. The project is jointly led by UM6P and Cardiff Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom.

This collaboration aims to promote inclusive, equitable, and globally connected higher education ecosystems, with a particular emphasis on gender equity and climate resilience. The Loubna Mekouar British Council Research Grant highlights the role of multidisciplinary science in addressing climate challenges through innovation and international cooperation. It also reinforces the global relevance of UM6P’s research in climate sciences and sustainability, especially in relation to gender-responsive adaptation strategies.

The project is co-led by Dr. Issam Damaj from Cardiff Metropolitan University and Prof. Loubna Mekouar from UM6P. It brings together a dynamic team of mentors and institutional partners from both Morocco and the UK. Among the academic mentors are Prof. Elizabeth Redmond and Dr. Fiona Carroll from Cardiff Met, as well as Prof. Loudyi Dalila and Prof. Rachida El Morabet from the University of Hassan II Casablanca. Their expertise spans innovation in higher education, climate technologies, and the empowerment of women in science.

In addition to the academic leadership, the project involves several associate partners committed to climate justice and social inclusion. These include Environment Platform Wales, Menter Môn Ltd (UK), the Association Démocratique des Femmes du Maroc, and the Moroccan Coalition for Climate Justice. Together, they form a diverse network working to promote community-based climate resilience and amplify the voices of women in environmental decision-making.

By awarding the Loubna Mekouar British Council Research Grant, the British Council affirms its support for bold, multidisciplinary projects that connect research, policy, and practice across borders. It also acknowledges the strategic role of Moroccan institutions like UM6P in shaping inclusive innovation at both national and international levels.
