Showcasing Urban Innovation, Digital Twins, and Africa’s Smart City Vision
A National Stage for Urban Transformation
On May 23, 2025, the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P) in Benguerir will host the Smart City Morocco RoadShow & Expo 2025/2030, marking a significant milestone in Morocco’s national urban innovation strategy. Organized in partnership with Casa Events & Animation and the FIWARE Foundation, the event aims to accelerate the digital transformation of Moroccan and African cities through the integration of cutting-edge technologies, sustainable planning, and cross-sector collaboration.

Forum Africain sur les Villes Intelligentes: High-Level Dialogue in Benguerir
The Benguerir edition of the Roadshow will feature the Forum Africain sur les Villes Intelligentes, welcoming policymakers, researchers, and urban practitioners to exchange on critical challenges facing 21st-century cities. High-level speakers such as Dr. Hicham El Habti, President of UM6P, and Farid Chourak, Wali of the Marrakech-Safi Region, will share perspectives on smart territorial governance, funding mechanisms for urban innovation, and the role of AI in building resilient green cities. This forum will place UM6P at the forefront of shaping the national smart city agenda.
Smart Campus Digital Twin: Innovation in Action
As a living lab of innovation, UM6P will showcase its Smart Campus digital twin, a real-time system that simulates energy efficiency, cybersecurity, mobility, water usage, and environmental quality across campus infrastructure. These demonstrations highlight how smart technologies can be embedded into urban management to improve planning, responsiveness, and sustainability. The campus itself becomes a model for what future African cities could look like—intelligent, efficient, and human-centered.
Aligned with Morocco’s Vision and Global Goals
The Roadshow is deeply aligned with Morocco’s strategic goals, including the Digital Morocco 2030 vision and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG 11: “Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.” The event also reflects the national commitment to territorial equity and innovation, as emphasized in King Mohammed VI’s 2023 speech on sustainable development and resilience. UM6P’s role is central in turning these frameworks into real, actionable models for tomorrow’s cities.
Empowering Youth and Entrepreneurs
To foster inclusion and entrepreneurship, the Roadshow will also feature a Startup Village, where local innovators, students, and entrepreneurs will present bold solutions to real urban challenges. By connecting research, policy, and business, the event creates a platform for future change-makers and underlines UM6P’s commitment to empowering youth and supporting innovation ecosystems. With its strategic position and research-driven culture, UM6P is not just hosting the conversation—it is helping lead it.
