The Globe Digest #61: Technology’s Human Impact, Through an Anthropologist’s Lens
How MIT scholar Dwai Banerjee explores the lived experiences behind modern tech systems
The latest edition of The Globe Digest takes us into the work of Dwai Banerjee, an associate professor at MIT who combines anthropology, history, and technology studies to explore how everyday citizens navigate the systems that shape their lives

Banerjee is an MIT scholar who, in a short time, has produced a wide-ranging body of work about the impact of technology on society — and who, as a trained anthropologist, has a keen eye for people’s lived experience.
In one book, “Enduring Cancer” (2020), Banerjee studies the lives of mostly poor cancer patients in Delhi, exploring their psychological horizons and interactions with the medical care system.
Another book, “Hematologies” (2020), co-authored with anthropologist Jacob Copeman, examines common ideas about blood in Indian society.
