Prof. Guerraoui received the award for the impactful paper “Lightweight Probabilistic Broadcast,” published in the Proceedings of the 2001 International Conference on Dependable Systems and Networks. Co-authored with Patrick Eugster, Sidath Handurukande, Petr Kouznetsov, and Anne-Marie Kermarrec, the study introduced a transformative idea:
The first fully decentralized epidemic (or gossip-based) broadcast protocol where no node relies on global system knowledge.
