From Morocco to the Global Stage of Space Innovation

Innovation knows no borders — and neither do the ambitions of University Mohammed VI Polytechnic students. A team from EMINES – School of Industrial Management at UM6P has been selected as Global Finalists in the NASA International Space Apps Challenge, one of the world’s largest space-focused hackathons.
Out of 18,860 teams worldwide, only 45 reached the final stage, and this UM6P team proudly represents Morocco on the global stage.
Competing Among the World’s Best
The NASA International Space Apps Challenge brings together students, engineers, scientists, and innovators from more than 150 countries, encouraging participants to develop solutions using open NASA data to address real-world challenges on Earth and in space.
The UM6P team advanced through local judging and a rigorous global evaluation led by NASA experts, standing out for the originality, technical depth, and impact potential of their project. Their selection places them among an elite group of innovators shaping the future of space technology and data-driven problem solving.
A Collaborative Ecosystem of Excellence
This achievement reflects the strength of UM6P’s innovation ecosystem. The project was developed through collaboration between Open Minds Arts & Culture and 1337 – Coding School, with mentors guiding the team throughout the competition.
By combining management insight from EMINES, technical expertise, and creative thinking, the students demonstrated the interdisciplinary approach that defines UM6P’s educational philosophy.
Empowering the Next Generation of Space Innovators
Beyond the competition itself, this milestone signals something larger: Moroccan talent is contributing to global scientific conversations. Through initiatives like the NASA Space Apps Challenge, UM6P students gain exposure to international standards of excellence, learn to work under high-performance conditions, and develop solutions with global relevance.
