More than a university of excellence, the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic is first and foremost a platform for research and development in service of the OCP Group, and it remains open to Moroccan and international researchers alike. From hydrogen systems to nanomaterials, its labs are reshaping the boundaries of science—and bringing Moroccan innovation to the global stage.

Science at the Service of Industrial Sovereignty
Investing in R&D is not just a strategic ambition but a vital requirement for an industrial actor like OCP. To remain competitive and at the technological forefront, the group created UM6P as a flagship to reimagine the best practices in science and technology. With more than 250 full-time researchers and growing infrastructure, the university is designed to serve both experimental innovation and industrial scale-up. UM6P currently boasts 143 professors from the diaspora, some of whom have established “mirror labs” that replicate experimental conditions found in top global institutions.
Prolific Labs, Smart Discoveries
From green hydrogen capture and purification systems to nanomaterials for solar energy and batteries, UM6P’s labs are teeming with breakthroughs. Notably, InnovX—an industrial arm created under UM6P—has piloted lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathodes, pioneered battery container systems, and is preparing a full solar panel assembly line. Other projects include phosphate drying using concentrated solar power, photovoltaic cell development, and cadmium purification from phosphate ore—aiming to align Moroccan exports with the highest global standards.

Rooted in Territory, Projecting to the World
UM6P’s influence extends across Morocco. The university is developing over 100 hectares of solar research parks in Benguerir and the Khouribga region, converting former mining sites into clean energy labs. At the same time, initiatives like Green Energy Park and Stargate—its innovation and startup campus—consolidate its role as a launchpad for high-impact tech entrepreneurship.
With strategic infrastructure and agility in partnerships, UM6P is fast becoming a magnet for high-level researchers and experimental platforms.
More Than a University, A Social Engine
UM6P is also embedded in the social DNA of OCP. Through inclusive education, social housing for students, and extensive scholarship programs—80% of bachelor students are on full scholarship—the university is helping build a model of equitable access to advanced education. Its integrated urban planning and community programs in Benguerir reflect a broader ambition: to make innovation a driver of sustainable development.
