Frantz Fanon Centenary: Revisiting Decoloniality at UM6P
June 25th & 26th | UM6P Campus in Benguerir
On June 25 and 26, 2025, the Institute for Advanced Studies at UM6P will host an international symposium to mark the centenary of Frantz Fanon’s birth. Taking place on the Benguerir campus, this event invites scholars, thinkers, and students from across the Global South and Global North to revisit the enduring influence of Fanon’s radical thought in today’s postcolonial world.
Held under the theme “The Return of Decoloniality: Borders, National Sovereignties, and the Quest for Disalienation”, the symposium aims to ignite a transdisciplinary conversation around the relevance of Fanon’s writings for contemporary struggles against neocolonial structures. More than a historical tribute, the event seeks to engage with Fanon as a living, critical framework for understanding the complex tensions between identity, sovereignty, and global order.

Over two days, panels and roundtables will explore how Fanon’s legacy resonates in diverse contexts—ranging from African liberation movements to the epistemological challenges posed by Eurocentric knowledge systems.
A special focus will be placed on the intersections of mental health, cultural alienation, and political emancipation, themes that Fanon himself so powerfully embodied in his dual role as psychiatrist and anti-colonial theorist.
The program will unfold in Room TG-C-16 and will feature keynote addresses, thematic panels, and participatory dialogues, offering a rare opportunity to reflect on the emancipatory power of thought in a time marked by new forms of domination. By bringing together critical voices from across continents, the symposium reaffirms UM6P’s commitment to fostering intellectual exchange on questions that shape the future of our societies.
As the centenary of Frantz Fanon opens a space for both remembrance and reinvention, this gathering positions UM6P not only as a host, but as a hub for forward-looking research grounded in historical consciousness and global solidarity.
