Tapping into Diaspora Intelligence for Africa’s Scientific Future

On July 14, 2025, the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P) held a strategic meeting in Oslo with members of the UM6P Associates Network, engaging Moroccan professionals, researchers, and partners based in Norway. Organized with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Norway, this session reflected UM6P’s long-term strategy of building bridges with the Moroccan diaspora to strengthen Africa’s scientific and innovation landscape.
The event is part of a growing international momentum led by UM6P, following similar initiatives in Montreal, Brussels, and Stockholm. These meetings are designed to activate a global network of high-potential individuals eager to contribute to Morocco and Africa’s development through research, entrepreneurship, and strategic collaboration.
In Oslo, discussions focused on how diaspora talents can directly impact national priorities—from energy transition and healthcare innovation to industrial transformation and emerging technologies. Participants explored mechanisms for skills transfer, joint project incubation, and reintegration pathways into the broader Moroccan innovation ecosystem.
At the center of this initiative is the UM6P Associates program, a flagship platform that connects global Moroccan competencies in science, innovation, and entrepreneurship with UM6P’s institutional capabilities. Through UM6P associates, members gain access to research labs, academic partnerships, and collaborative ventures, fostering a two-way flow of knowledge between the university and the world.

The Oslo meeting reaffirmed UM6P’s position as a globally connected university, where diaspora engagement is not symbolic—but strategic. With every new connection, UM6P brings the world closer to Africa’s scientific ambitions, and invites its global citizens to become active contributors to transformation.
UM6P Associates isn’t just a network. It’s a movement—shaped by knowledge, rooted in purpose, and driven by collective impact.
