Professor Youssef Habibi Represents Africa’s Voice in Global Sustainability Education
From July 27 to August 1, UM6P participated in the ACS Green and Sustainable Chemistry Summer School at the University of Vermont (USA), through the contribution of Professor Youssef Habibi, Chair of the Sustainable Materials Program. As an invited instructor, Professor Habibi engaged with a community of 60 graduate students and postdocs from across the Americas, all gathered for a week-long program on green and sustainable chemistry.

His 90-minute lecture focused on the use of renewable and recycled resources to green chemical feedstocks, an area increasingly central to low-impact material design. Professor Habibi also offered a personal reflection on his journey, tracing back to his own experience as a participant in the 2009 edition of the same ACS program, highlighting the long-term value of such global academic exchanges.
The session also served as a platform to showcase UM6P and OCP Group’s commitment to sustainable development in Africa, especially through initiatives like GreenChemAfrica, which aims to expand training in green chemistry across the continent. This participation reinforces UM6P’s positioning as a hub for scientific leadership and its active engagement in shaping sustainable innovation at a global scale.
