The 16th Edition of Les Tables Rondes de l’Arbois et de la Méditerranée Convened Leading Scientists in Rabat to Examine the Careers and Contributions of Exceptional Moroccan Women in Science

On the 20th and 21st of May, University Mohammed VI Polytechnic, in collaboration with Aix-Marseille University, organized the 16th Edition of Les Tables Rondes de l’Arbois et de la Méditerranée (TRAM) at its campus in Rabat. Held under the theme “Exceptional Moroccan Women Scientists,” the event brought together researchers, academic leaders, and institutional representatives to explore the scientific journeys of women shaping research across disciplines.
More than a celebration, the two-day program offered a space to reflect on how scientific careers are built, supported, and sustained—placing the experiences of Moroccan women researchers at the center of the conversation.
A Long-Standing Franco-Moroccan Scientific Dialogue
For its 16th edition, TRAM continued to serve as a bridge between Moroccan and French research communities. The partnership between UM6P and Aix-Marseille University reflects a shared commitment to advancing collaborative science and to creating platforms where ideas, methods, and experiences can circulate freely across institutions and borders.
Hosting the event at the Rabat campus reinforced the University’s role as a meeting point for international academic exchange and a catalyst for cross-Mediterranean cooperation.
Celebrating Exceptional Moroccan Women Scientists
This edition examined scientific trajectories across a remarkable breadth of fields, including nuclear science, artificial intelligence, geology, biomedical sciences, food systems, biomechanics, and health technologies. The program featured thematic conferences and discussion sessions enriched by the contributions of Dr. Ilham Kadri, Dr. Najat Mokhtar, and Pr. Hasnaa Chennaoui, alongside researchers affiliated with international institutions.
By bringing together such diverse expertise, the event highlighted the depth and impact of women’s contributions to science—both within Morocco and on the global research stage.
Examining the Conditions That Shape Scientific Careers
Discussions moved beyond individual achievement to address the institutional, academic, and operational conditions that influence how scientific careers develop and how researchers participate in international networks. These exchanges offered valuable perspectives on the structural factors that enable—or hinder—progress in research.
This reflective approach aligns with the University’s broader mission to nurture talent and build environments where scientific ambition can flourish.
Charting Future Scientific Orientations
Alongside the conferences, the Scientific and Industrial Council convened to continue its work on future scientific orientations and thematic priorities for upcoming editions. These deliberations ensure that TRAM remains a forward-looking platform, evolving in step with the questions and opportunities shaping contemporary research.
Through initiatives such as this, UM6P reaffirms its commitment to advancing collaborative, inclusive, and impactful science across Morocco, Africa, and the wider Mediterranean region.
