This week marked the successful launch of the GreenChemAfrica program at UM6P, a pan-African initiative designed to equip a new generation of scientists with the tools to drive sustainable transformation in the field of chemistry.

With the support of UM6P SUSMAT-RC, the Executive Education STH, and the endorsement of IUPAC and the Royal Society of Chemistry, the program brings together expertise, vision, and commitment to reimagining the role of chemistry in addressing global and regional challenges.

This kick-off sets the stage for an ambitious academic journey rooted in the principles of green chemistry, exploring its origins, its twelve guiding principles, and real-world applications tackling today’s most urgent environmental issues.

Beyond the academic content, the launch was enriched by insightful discussions on the vital role of education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and scientific leadership in developing context-specific solutions for Africa.

A closing roundtable underscored the importance of cultivating a vibrant and engaged scientific community, one that values impact, innovation, and purpose.
