Former NASA astronaut Dorothy “Dottie” Metcalf-Lindenburger at the first Africa-Middle East Space Conference (AMESC 2025), to be held in Rabat from February 5 to 8, 2025. Held at the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic Convention Center(UM6P), the event will bring together key players in the space sector, both emerging and established, to discuss the challenges and opportunities in space exploration. A former mission specialist on the STS-131 space shuttle and veteran of missions aboard the International Space Station (ISS), Metcalf-Lindenburger is also known for having commanded the NEEMO 16 mission, a NASA undersea expedition aimed at simulating living conditions in space.
Her unique career path, which has taken her from teaching astronomy to commanding space missions, makes her an emblematic figure in the promotion of science and space education. AMESC 2025 is the fruit of an unprecedented collaboration between several Moroccan and international institutions. The Moroccan Space Industry Initiative (MISI), in partnership with the Moroccan Aerospace Cluster (AMC), the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), the Moroccan Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and the US Embassy in Morocco, has worked tirelessly to bring this event to life.
