Science Week 2025: UM6P, AI and agriculture for tomorrow’s Africa

University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P) in Benguerir is set to host the 5th edition of its Science Week from February 17 to 23, 2025. This initiative will highlight the contributions of artificial intelligence and agriculture to socio-economic transformation, with a human-centered approach.

Under the theme of reconciling technological advances and societal aspirations, Science Week will bring together renowned researchers, including AI specialist Daniel Andler and Heide Hackmann, Director of Future Africa. They will discuss a wide range of topics, including the impact of artificial intelligence on health, medical diagnosis, and sustainable agricultural practices. UM6P, a veritable hub of innovation on the African continent, sees this event as an opportunity to reinforce its role as a catalyst for scientific progress while supporting young talent and fostering international collaborations.

Discussions will focus in particular on the importance of sustainable agriculture in a global context marked by environmental crises. AI, combined with agricultural technologies, is seen as an indispensable tool for optimizing food production, preserving natural resources, and anticipating climate challenges.

These innovations are part of a cross-disciplinary approach, where science and society converge to propose concrete solutions to the problems encountered, both in Morocco and on an African scale. Science Week will be organized around several theme days, dedicated to agricultural technologies, AI applications in medicine, and education. The aim is to encourage optimism about the science of tomorrow while raising awareness of the ethical issues involved in technological advances. Check the article
