As part of Science Week at UM6P Ben Guerir, held from February 17 to 23 under the theme “Shaping the Future,” the exhibition “The 5th Element” invites students and visitors on a unique artistic exploration.
Curated by La Galerie 38, this exhibition moves beyond any reference to Luc Besson’s cult film to offer an artistic reflection on the fundamental elements of matter. Four renowned artists illustrate each element:
- Air comes to life through the birds of Mohamed Hamidi, symbolizing lightness and freedom.
- Water is embodied by the aquatic creatures of Barthélémy Toguo, notably a finely crafted blue ink piece.
- Earth finds its poet in Senegalese artist Aliou Diack, who presents three major works, including a rare monochrome white “dripping.”
- Fire is expressed in the striking sculptures of Jems Koko Bi, crafted from cedar trunks from the Azrou forest.
But what is the 5th element? Art itself, which brings people together through this accessible and captivating exhibition. A must-see experience for art and science enthusiasts!
