Unlocking Morocco’s Scientific and Regulatory Future in Medical Cannabi
In a major move toward health innovation in Morocco, University Mohammed VI Polytechnic and the National Agency for the Regulation of Cannabis-Related Activities (ANRAC) have signed a strategic partnership to advance research on therapeutic cannabis. The agreement lays the groundwork for building a robust scientific framework to explore medical applications of cannabis, guided by rigorous research protocols and internationally recognized biomedical standards.
The collaboration focuses on the chemical and pharmacological analysis of cannabis-derived compounds, particularly their potential effectiveness in treating various health conditions. Research teams will combine experimentation, modeling, and data analysis to better understand how these compounds can be safely integrated into clinical practice, in full compliance with health and safety regulations.

A key component of this initiative is its focus on knowledge transfer. The project is designed to move beyond academic research and into real-world application. Findings will be shared with healthcare professionals, pharmacists, and clinical researchers, supported by targeted training programs on the therapeutic, legal, and regulatory aspects of medical cannabis.
In parallel, UM6P’s African Genome Center will lead a genetic mapping project of Morocco’s indigenous “Beldia” cannabis variety. Using next-generation sequencing technologies, this effort aims to document and protect this local resource within a clear regulatory framework, contributing to both national heritage and future medical innovation.
