UM6P Climate Resilience Project Receives British Council Recognition

Recognized by the British Council, a collaborative research initiative led by University Mohammed VI Polytechnic highlights the role of innovation, interdisciplinary research, and international partnerships in strengthening women’s climate resilience in Morocco. University Mohammed VI Polytechnic received certificates of recognition during the British Council’s Climate Connections: UK–Morocco Collaboration for Skills and Research. The event took place in the presence of Mr. Alex Pinfield OBE, UK Ambassador to Morocco.
This recognition highlights the impact of a collaborative project focused on strengthening women’s climate resilience in Morocco. The initiative brought together researchers from Morocco and the United Kingdom to address climate-related challenges through research and technological innovation. Moreover, the recognition reflects the growing importance of international cooperation in developing solutions to complex environmental issues.
A Multidisciplinary Approach to Climate Resilience
The recognized initiative, titled “Empowering Women’s Climate Change Resilience in Morocco Through Research and Technological Innovation: A Multidisciplinary Approach,” was led by Dr. Loubna Mekouar from University Mohammed VI Polytechnic and Dr. Issam Damaj from Cardiff Metropolitan University.
The project adopted a multidisciplinary approach to better understand the challenges faced by women in the context of climate change. It also explored innovative solutions that can improve resilience and support sustainable development.
Furthermore, the initiative combined expertise from different academic fields. This approach encouraged the development of practical and research-driven responses to environmental challenges.
UM6P Climate Resilience Project Strengthens Research Capacity
One of the project’s main achievements was its contribution to the development of Early Career Researchers (ECR). Through dedicated activities and collaborative work, participants strengthened their research skills and expanded their professional networks.
In addition, the initiative created opportunities for knowledge sharing and scientific exchange. Researchers benefited from exposure to new methodologies, perspectives, and collaborative practices.
The project therefore played an important role in preparing a new generation of researchers capable of addressing climate-related issues through evidence-based approaches.
Promoting International Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange
International collaboration was a central component of the initiative. Researchers from different institutions worked together to share expertise and develop common research objectives.
As a result, the project fostered stronger academic connections between Morocco and the United Kingdom. These exchanges encouraged dialogue and supported the creation of long-term research partnerships.
Moreover, collaborative initiatives of this nature contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge while creating opportunities for future joint projects.
Supporting Women’s Climate Resilience Through Innovation
Climate change continues to affect communities around the world. However, its impacts are often experienced differently across social groups. The project therefore placed particular attention on women’s resilience and adaptive capacity.
Through research and innovation, the initiative explored ways to strengthen women’s ability to respond to environmental challenges. It also highlighted the importance of inclusive approaches that consider local realities and community needs.
Furthermore, the project demonstrated how technological innovation can support sustainable and equitable solutions. These efforts contribute to broader discussions on climate adaptation and resilience.
A Recognition That Reflects UM6P’s Research Ambitions
The recognition awarded by the British Council reflects the commitment of University Mohammed VI Polytechnic to advancing impactful research and fostering international scientific collaboration. Through projects that combine innovation, capacity building, and interdisciplinary expertise, the university continues to contribute to addressing global challenges.
At the same time, it supports the development of research ecosystems capable of generating long-term societal impact. Ultimately, this recognition highlights the value of collaborative research initiatives and reinforces the role of science and innovation in building more resilient communities.
