The OCP Group, world leader in phosphates and plant nutrition solutions, is today a key player in Morocco’s energy transition. Faced with climate and environmental challenges, the Group has adopted an ambitious decarbonization strategy, integrating innovation and new technologies to build a sustainable, high-performance industrial model.
By investing massively in renewable energies, green hydrogen, and optimized water management, OCP aims to be carbon neutral by 2040. This commitment is part of a broader vision: that of an ecosystem where technological innovation fuels resilient agriculture and environmentally friendly industry.
A massive investment plan for a green industry
As part of its sustainable development program, OCP Group has announced an investment of 13 billion dollars over the period 2023-2027. This massive financial commitment has several objectives: to ensure the transition to clean energy sources, to reduce the carbon footprint of its activities, and to develop sustainable agricultural solutions.
One of the major thrusts of this transformation is the desire to achieve total energy autonomy through renewable energies by 2027.
The electricity used by the Group will come exclusively from renewable sources, thanks to the deployment of solar and wind farms, as well as energy storage solutions. This energy transformation is essential to reducing the group’s carbon intensity and making Morocco a regional hub for sustainable phosphates.
Hydrogène vert et ammoniac décarboné, une révolution en marche
Pour aller plus loin dans sa démarche, OCP a conclus en 2024 un partenariat stratégique avec le groupe Engie. Ce partenariat, dont l’investissement pourrait atteindre 17 milliards d’euros, vise à développer des infrastructures dédiées à l’hydrogène vert et à l’ammoniac décarboné.
L’ammoniac est un élément clé dans la fabrication des engrais, et sa production actuelle est l’une des principales sources d’émissions de CO₂ dans l’industrie chimique. Grâce à l’utilisation de l’hydrogène vert produit à partir d’énergies renouvelables, OCP ambitionne de remplacer progressivement l’ammoniac traditionnel par un ammoniac à faible empreinte carbone.
